Just Announced! Skrillex After Party! 10/12

Skrillex is going to be at the Sate Theater on October 12th... and then he'll be at his own after party at PCMH. What? Thats right. Skrillex (Sonny Moore formally of From First To Last) himself will be here at Port City Music Hall to keep the party going. On top of that, Boston's own Wobblesauce and Digital Bonesaw Society from right here in Portland will be performing as well.
The after party starts shortly after the State Theater show is over and this is likely to sell out, so get down here right after the last beat drops.
The doors will open at 11pm and the party continues at 11:30 all the way until 3 am! Hows that for a Wednesday night??
Tickets are $10 in advance. $25 for VIP. and $15 on the day of the show. Tickets will be on sale at 10am on Friday August 26th and will be available online and at the PCMH box office.

Tedeschi Trucks Band This Friday!

Wrapping up the work week is the Tedeschi Trucks Band at the Ocean Gateway in Portland, Maine. We've been hyping this show up for a while and there is a reason why. Both Grammy winning, husband and wife duo Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks are guitar virtuosos in their own right and have combined forces to create this super group of sorts. Featuring members from both their bands and Allman Brothers Band bassist Oteil Burbridge (Derek also plays slide guitar for the Allmans along with Warren Haynes). Kicking off the night will be Trombone Shorty and New Orleans Avenue. This is a show NOT TO MISS!

This weeks Clash has been moved from its usual Wednesday slot (Easy Star All Stars will be dubbing it up) to THURSDAY NIGHT. It'll be the same deal, you come out and cheer for your favorite, this time around its Salt n Pepa vs TLC. One of the most anticipated Clashes this season!

Easy Star All Stars This Wednesday!

Easy Star All Stars are a rotating roster of musicians from a label of the same name. They were originally formed as a start up band for Easy Stars early recordings.
In 2003 they recorded a complete Reggae interpretation of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. And like the Pink Floyd album itself, it has stayed on the Billboard charts since its release.
Along with covering Pink Floyd, 2006 saw a release of Radiodread, a complete cover of Radiohead's OK Computer an EP of original material, and Easy Star's Lonely Hearts Dub Band.
They come to Port City Music Hall THIS Wednesday the 17th (tomorrow).

Just Announced! Trampled By Turtles 11/13

There has been a resurgence of drummer-less acoustic, folk, blue grass bands over the last decade. In the last two years especially. Trampled By Turtles are continuing the trend and are doing it well with the likes of Mumford and Sons, Old Crow Medicine Show, and the Avett Brothers. They draw influence from Townes Van Zant, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and Tom Waits.
They've stolen the stage at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, the Newport Folk Festival, and the 2011 ROMP roots and branches fest.

Three new shows just announced at PCMH!

Some bands claim to be just "straight rock n' roll" and end up disappointing the audience by lackluster performance. Jonathan Tyler and the Northern Lights are just a straight up kick-ass rock n' roll band from Dallas, Texas.

What else needs to be said other than they've toured with ZZ Top, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, JJ Grey and MOFRO, and played at Bonnaroo, Voodoo Fest, and SXSW. They'll be knocking the walls down here at PCMH on October 19th. Tickets go on sale July 29th at 10am.

The dubstep craze continues on October 8th with EOTO. Michael Travis and Jason Hann best known for their percussive work with The String Cheese Incident bring you this electronic, mostly improvised experience. EOTO play as two drummers armed with a studio geeks dream of computers and gadgets to create something different every night. They have played over 700 shows in their 5 years of existence.

Finally, a home town favorite graces Port City Music Hall once again. Paranoid Social Club on September 9th. These guys are well received and have had tunes featured in Beerfest, Entourage, and Cathouse.
Their latest album, Axis IV was released this year to critical acclaim. They celebrated the new disc with a release show at PCMH. Who knows what they've got up their sleeves for this show.

ZOOTZ folks are back for another round of good old fashioned dance partying. DJ's Bob Look, Chris Gauthier, FK1 aka Fred Kennedy and Larree Love who is flying in from LA just for the show will be spinning 6 hours of Zootz classics.
Included in this 6 hour extravaganza will be 2 dance floors, 3 bars, dancing platforms, go-go dancers, and a 3AM CLOSING time. That's right you heard me. 3AM.

Barefoot Truth 7/29

This Friday Barefoot Truth will be back in Portland. They've come out of their hole in the wall town of Mystic, Connecticut and have blended the sound of folk, rock, reggae, and jazz to avoid the mainstream but at the same time get some 7 million plays on Pandora.
Barefoot Truth has notably shared the stage with Pete Francis from Dispatch and were book-ended by Bruce Hornsby and Crosby and Nash at a pre-debate rally for President Obama.
Having played here in Portland several times in the last few years, Barefoot Truth has been bringing it more and more each time as their fan base and sound expand.

Just Announced! The Baseball Project, Dirty White Hats and Spin Doctors!

The Baseball Project is a super group for those in the know. It features Peter Buck, and Scott McCaughey both members of R.E.M. and The Minus5. Also in the line up is Steve Wynn known for his work with Dream Syndicate and his solo career he's been working at for 20 something years. Finally, rounding everything out is Linda Pitmon on the drums and also Wynn's wife.
Everyone bring their own flavor of playing to the music but the one thing that they all seem to have in common is baseball. During the 2010 baseball season they released a free song monthly on ESPN.com as a sort of commentary on the baseball season itself. The Baseball Project released these songs in 2011 with The Broadside Ballads. These guys are a really unique approach to music and are for both music and baseball fans alike. The show is on August 27th at PCMH and tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here or at the PCMH box office.

Also coming down the line is the Dirty White Hats, a band of hip hop hooligans from here in Portland. They've graced the stage here before and are returning and upping the ante. Dispatch Magazine is raving about these guys. The first 50 people to show up get in FREE so be sure to get here early on September 23rd to catch the madness.

Finally, Spin Doctors on October 10th. You've got to remember these guys from the early 90's. The 90's revival is becoming a serious trend in recent years and the Spin Doctors will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of their 5x platinum selling album "Pocket Full of Kryptonite" by playing it in its entirety. Rx Bandits THIS SATURDAY! 7/16!

From all sources, this tour will most likely be their last, so that's all the more reason to come out to come see the Rx Bandits this Saturday at Port City Music Hall. These guys aren't throwing in the towel completely, but after a 16 year career, touring would get tiresome to anyone.

Rx Bandits have their roots in Ska, Reggae, punk and have also branched out into alternative rock.
They've been on the Warped Tour and done the major festival circuit which included Bonnaroo, Coachella, and Bamboozle. Even if these guys aren't really calling it quits... They are still worth checking out.

Port City Music Hall takes the $2 Tuesday to a whole new level. For starters, we're bringing you two of the best local acts we can find each night for only a $2 cover charge! Once you're inside, you can enjoy a variety of $2 drink specials. Some of these bands you may know, some you might not, here are some of the acts you wont want to miss.

The remains of The Cambiata, Jacob and the House of Fire, and Anna's Ghost come together to form one of the most talked about acts around town. Vanityites.The sextet is fronted by Chris Moulton, known his energetic and poised stage presence and is backed by some of the best musicians in Portland. Be sure to catch them on July 19th with A Severe Joy. Their debut EP "Once Again to Lillith", produced by John Wyman drops in August.

Next up is The Baltic Sea. These guys have been together for 10 years and are still going strong. After taking a while to find their sound, The Baltic Sea have a full length record entitled "Through Scenic Heights and Days Regrets" under their belt and will be celebrating the release of a brand new full length with this show at PCMH. Starting off the night will be Nice Places on Tuesday August 2nd.

On August 9th, Group HUG will be performing. These guys are rooted deep in soul, funk, and hip hop and they show it with all original beats live at every show. Also on the bill that night is Space Versus Speed featuring Spencer Albee from Rustic Overtones and As Fast As and Walt Craven from 6Gig and Lost on Liftoff and more of Portland's finest.

Just Announced! Slaine opening for Heavy Metal Kings! 7/22

Heavy Metal Kings are riding into Portland on July 22 and they're bringing with them their self described blend of hip-hop and heavy metal. This is the latest from rap veterans Ill Bill and Vinnie Paz, so this has got to be good, right?!
But kicking off the night will be Bostons own Slaine. You may know him from one of two ways, or maybe both. He has had a notable acting career playing notable roles in Ben Affleck's films The Town and Gone Baby Gone and most recently in the web series 617. On top of acting, he has quite the resume of underground success, guesting on several Ill Bill tracks and expanding his own discography as well.

Also performing will be Q-Unique. Labeling him as just an underground rapper wouldn't begin to cover this guy. Q has written, produced, and performed with many genre defying artists. Working with the Rock Steady Crew, he also became the lead vocalist for the hard rock super group Stillwell featuring members of Korn, Wuv, and P.O.D.

Sparks the Rescue 8/20 ALL AGES!

One of the most successful bands to emerge from the rubble of the All-Ages scene in Portland is Sparks the Rescue. Their rigorous record, tour, record, tour work ethic has earned them spots on Warped Tour, opening slots for The All American Rejects, cover songs on the Punk Goes Pop 3 compilation, and winning the 2009 "I Want My Music On MTV! Competition!"
In 2011 they released their second full length album "The Worst Thing I've Been Cursed With." Channeling their influences Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, Jimmy Eat World and Saves The Day, Sparks the Rescue is returning to rebuild the All Ages scene that made them who they are with the energy and charisma they are known for.

Marty Folb aka MartyParty was born and raised in South Africa and currently resides in Brooklyn, NY. After DJing around California, he found his voice and created his own style of electronic music. A style that defies the norm, tells more stories, more music, more diverse beats. A style he has dubbed simply as Purple.
Marty Party's live act is a "Purple Orchestra" that brings the crowd through emotional ups and downs through dance. Each performance is a unique experience, especially since Folb is not your every day disc jockey. Armed with only Abelton Live, a laptop, and two channels MartyParty delivers something completely new every night depending on the venue, sound system, and crowd.

Vinnie Paz and Ill Bill are two of the most renown MCs in underground Hip Hop. They both take the road less traveled in the music industry, opting to hone their craft rather than sell out. Their corresponding careers lead them to collaborate on each others discs such as "The Hour of Reprisal" (Bill's 2008 LP), "Season of the Assassin" (a release from Paz in 2010), and most importantly, the track that birthed the name "Heavy Metal Kings" itself on Jedi Mind Tricks' "Servants in Heaven, Kings in Hell".
The collaboration with JMT lead Bill and Paz to combine forces and release the Heavy Metal Kings self titled debut album in April of this year. Brought to life by a cast of thousands, "Heavy Metal Kings" features production from DJ Muggs, Ill Bill, Shuko, Sicknature, C-Lance, Grand Finale, Jack of All Trades, Junior Makhno, Vherbal, and DJ Premie as well as a line up of emcees such as Reef the Lost Cauze, Slaine, Crypt the Warchild, Q-Unique, and Sabac Red.
Heavy Metal Kings deliver the rhymes and slick times of underground Hip Hop along with the intensity and delivery of Heavy Metal (Both Paz and Ill are Metal scholars). With like minded visions and creative control, Heavy Metal Kings throw down inspired performances that draw from influences that span generations and eras.

The son of Southern Maine, Ryan Peters, aka SPOSE comes to Port City Music Hall for a lyrical onslaught, proving once again that he is one of the best MC's in Maine. Since the release of his debut album "Preposterously Dank" in 2008 on his own imprint, Spose has seen his musical endeavors reach a new plateau. He was named Maine's "Best HipHop Act" for both 2008 and 2009 at the WePushButtons Awardsand also named "Best Hiphop Act" in the Portland Phoenix's 2010 Best Music Poll. "I'm Awesome", a track off his 2009 mixtape, "We Smoked it All", featuring fellow emcee Cam Groves received regional radio play in New England and garnered Spose his first major label recording contract with Universal Republic Records. The single was released in March 2009 nationally and would eventually go gold after selling over 500,000 digital copies in just a few months. Spose used the opportunity to build his own company, the Preposterously Dank Entertainment label based out of Wells, Maine. Port City Music Hall is proud to welcome back two of musics' most influential roots-rock and blues artists of our time, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi, as The Tedeschi Trucks Band. The performance will take place rain or shine at Ocean Gateway Terminal (14 Ocean Gateway Pier, Portland, Maine). Concert grounds include a 21+ beer garden as well.

As husband-wife couples go in the world of music, it is a challenge to find a duo as well-fitted and naturally prolific as that of singer/guitarist Susan Tedeschi and guitarist Derek Trucks. They are both heavily steeped in the blues tradition, yet open to far-ranging influences including rock, gospel, jazz and World music. Each has produced recordings that share a sensibility best described as a swampy mix of rootsy, rockin’ American music.

On June 7, Tedeschi Trucks Band will release its debut recording Revelator, the result of eighteen months of dedicated musical focus. True to Trucks’s promise, the album is a confident yet unforced triumph offering a cohesive vision: an idyllic, musical world in which the echoes of so many great traditions— Delta blues and Memphis soul, Sixties rock and Seventies funk—flow together naturally, blending with an entirely original, modern sensibility.

Most notably, Revelator features the newly formed Tedeschi Trucks Band, an eleven-member ensemble overflowing with talent and musical familiarity. Harmony singers Mike Mattison and Mark Rivers have joined forces with brothers Oteil Burbridge (noted for his years as bassist with the Allman Brothers Band) and Kofi Burbridge (longtime keyboardist/flutist with The Derek Trucks Band), a pair of drummers J. J. Johnson and Tyler Greenwell, plus trumpeter Maurice Brown, tenor saxophonist Kebbi Williams, and trombonist Saunders Sermons. (Additionally, Ryan Shaw and David Ryan Harris supply harmony vocals to various tracks on the album, and Alam Khan adds his masterful sarod playing to ‘These Walls.’) The fact that this aggregation includes so many musicians related by experience—and blood—clearly adds to the notion of Revelatoras a true group album, the product of a musical family.

Holy crap! Dinosaur Jr. is a legendary alternative rock/punk/ early-hardcore band formed in Amherst, Massachusetts in 1984. Originally called Dinosaur, prior to legal issues that forced the group to change their name, the band disbanded in 1997 until reuniting in 2005. Guitarist J Mascis, bassist Lou Barlow, and drummer Murph were the band's founding and current members; Mascis has been the group's sole continuous member. Their distinct sound, characterized by high gain, extensive use of feedback and distortion, and frontman J Mascis's melodic guitar solos, was highly influential in the alternative rock movement of the 1990s.

Every Dinosaur Jr album has its share of great songs, but there was something almost holy about that first trinity and the band that created them. It’s true this piece began by calling them passive, but most fans knew it was only their surface that was placid. At its best, the trio’s music (its guts) was like a version of the Stooges that didn’t have Iggy – just one of the Ashetons mumbling vocals while they all slugged the crap out of their instruments. Dino Jr’s sound was actually a roiling sea of emotion and rage and a sense of aggro that had been forged into a bizarre metal-punk-pop-whatsis by obsessive listening to Sabbath, the Birthday Party, The Cure, Blitz and Neil Young.

In February 2009, the band signed with indie label Jagjaguwar. The band's first release on the new label was titled Farm and released on June 23, 2009. Murph said the album was recorded at Mascis' home and marks return to the heavier, Where You Been LP era. The album was released to positive reviews.

The RX Bandit's are ready to rage on Saturday July 16th at PCMH, but we're sad to announce that this will be their last tour ever. "We would like to express our love and appreciation for all that you've done for us and how much a part of our growth you have been. We have all mutually decided that this summer will be our last tour. We love each other and love you all and hope to see you at the shows."

In an age where taking risks and being fearless can make or break you, RX Bandits have emerged as a tidal wave, a force that shatters all the boundaries set against them. Just Announced- Mishka and Mat McHugh at PCMH on 6/24

Mishka was born in Bermuda and was raised on a boat by his Bermudian father and Canadian mother, who had fulfilled their dream of a life on water by building a 40-foot sailing vessel for their young family. Mishka has been singing since before his earliest memories, and his inspirations have included the ocean, the hills, the coastline and the other rich natural settings of the Caribbean islands. In 1992 Mishka (now a young adult) returned to Nevis to live and became immersed in the culture of Rasta and of music. In Mishka's own words, "I recall Rasta as being something that was calling to me in a very subtle but very constant way….Growing up eating that food, listening to that music, feeling that vibration, knowing that reggae music, roots music, conscious music, was a part of the culture... Realizing that, okay, you can live this life."

Mat McHugh and his guitar are featured in a stripped back and intimate performance of songs from a career spanning 8 years and 5 albums. Along with all the favourites from The Beautiful Girls, Mat will be pulling a couple each night from his first solo album Seperatista which was recorded under the project name Mat McHugh & the Blackbird.

Tonight! The Indobox From Boston, MA with its roots in Northeast PA is growing to a national level, captivating listeners, and starting dance-parties everywhere they go, bringing something they call "dance-rock". Without exception, every Indobox show inevitably turns into a wild dance party.

Guitarists Mike Carter and Joe Zarick honed their song-craft together for years before the band took shape in Boston in '05. And in a short period of time, The Indobox has established their presence almost nation-wide through about 400 gigs in 18 states from Maine to Colorado, extensive promotion and a heavy online presence. The Indobox has also performed at 3 of the last 4 Camp Bisco festivals, as well as at the Gathering Of The Vibes festival and as a featured act, performing 2 sets at The Up North Music & Arts Festival, all in the midst of a newly national touring circuit and supporting groups like The New Deal, Brothers Past and The Egg (UK).

Nick Noonan, of Old Town, and Heidemann, originally from Seward, Neb., are now enjoying their wild ride, which is still going and doesn’t appear to be stopping anytime soon. The video, which is of Karmin covering Chris Brown’s pop hit “Look At Me Now,” had 6.7 million hits on YouTube and was climbing as of the writing of this article.

Pop and hip-hop royalty like Ryan Seacrest, Questlove, Nicki Minaj, Timbaland, Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore and Jermaine Dupri all have professed their love for the clip. And what’s not to love about it? An adorable girl spitting rapid-fire rhymes and then harmonizing beautifully with a cute, piano-playing boy. Their charm and talent are irresistible.

Heidemann and Noonan met at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and they’ve been virtually inseparable since. Heidemann studied vocal performance at Berklee; Noonan studied trombone, but could sing and play other instruments as well. She had dreams of someday making a career out of singing and performing; he was a lifelong musician, a core member of the jazz program at Leonard Middle School andOld Town High School.

He's Back! With a nearly sold out show this past November, JJ Grey and Mofro are back to PCMH on September 15th.

Singing with a passion and fervor directly influenced by the classic soul heroes, JJ Grey has written and recorded five albums of original songs steeped in the rhythm & blues, rock, and country soul of his native backwoods home outside Jacksonville, Florida.

Grey comes from a long tradition of Southern storytellers and, in that spirit, he fills his songs with details that are at once vivid, personal and universal. After a decade of hard touring, he still spends eight months of the year on the road, bringing his music to a loyal, ever-growing, worldwide fanbase.

In a live performance review in The New York Times, writer Nate Chinen praised JJ's “balance of wildness and cool” describing his music as "Southern swamp rock with undercurrents of Memphis soul. His songs chronicle ambiguous truths and unambiguous urges," delivered by Grey's “winningly uncontrived vocals.” Likewise, Billboard has praised Grey’s “world-beating blend of Southern rock, blues and Florida swamp soul.”

2010 saw the Alligator Records release of Grey’s latest labor of love, "Georgia Warhorse", named after the resilient Southern lubber grasshopper. “Yellow and black, and tough like an old-school Tonka toy,” says JJ. “They seem so at ease with the world. Just Announced- Deer Tick on 5/11

May just keeps getting better and better with Deer Tick performing live at PCMH on May 11th. Not only is it an early show, but it's the first of a double header, with The Clash Main Event to follow.

Deer Tick originated as a John McCauley solo project in December 2004. Beginning his touring career with the help of Brendon Massei (Viking Moses), McCauley had toured extensively across the United States by the age of 19. In DIY fashion, he released three cassettes and numerous CD-Rs in this time period, and the project eventually evolved into what is now known as Deer Tick. After almost one year of continuous touring McCauley returned to Providence with a new found confidence and a number of songs including "Dirty Dishes", "Art Isn't Real (City Of Sin)" and "Ashamed". Deer Tick would soon earn comparisons to pioneering indie and alt-country acts such as Bright Eyes, Modest Mouse, and Uncle Tupelo.

Marcy Playground is an American alternative rock and post-grunge band. Named for the formative location in lead singer John Wozniak’s childhood (the Marcy Open grade school in Minneapolis, Minnesota), Marcy Playground emerged in the late 90s. They had been influenced heavily by Kurt Cobain and his band Nirvana. The influence is quite clear on Marcy Playground’s self-titled album, with songs like The Shadow Of Seattle and Saint Joe On The School Bus. Wozniak’s first effort, zog bogbean - From The Marcy Playground, was self-produced, recorded in his bedroom studio with some help from his then-girlfriend Sherry Fraser and her brother Scott in the early nineties. A small run of CDs were self-released by Wozniak, and to this day they remain extremely difficult to find.

In 1996, after attending the Evergreen State College for two years, Wozniak moved east to New York, where Marcy Playground began to coalesce around the songs that would become the self-titled album. Bassist Dylan Keefe and drummer Dan Rieser filled out the band’s sound, and complemented Wozniak’s songwriting. The self-titled album was released in 1997, and Marcy Playground emerged into the mainstream with the success of the single “Sex And Candy.” Marcy Playground is quiet and minimalist in tone. Wozniak’s songs run in many different styles: some are modern folk music; many have undertones reminiscent of children’s songs; the blurred sound of psychedelia makes appearances; and then there are the songs with a clear rock sound.

We've been working on this since last year and finally all of our hard work has been made into reality where today we can officially announce that Port City Music Hall is now 18+.

Every show starting today is open to anybody 18 years old and older. If you are under 18 years of age you must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Our new kitchen is open and offers a creative choice of entrees, desserts, and finger foods. The menu was designed by The Black Tie Company.

In 1998 The Black Tie Company began with a mission to create unique events centered around remarkably good food. Twenty years later they have established a reputation as Maine's premiere caterer and are recognized for creative cuisine, and outstanding execution.

Small plate options at Port City Music Hall consist of jumbo yellow onion stack with southwestern sauce, jumbo soft pretzel with honey mustard, hot garlic cheese bread (sourdough with garlic butter and cheese with your choice of creamy herb dip or marinara), and baked Brie in a puff pastry- jalapeno-strawberry jam, granny smith apple slices, and crackers.

Entrees include Osso Bucco of Pork with mashed potato, demi-glace, and roasted vegetables, Chicken Picatta with polenta, lemon caper sauce, and vegetables, or Breaded Eggplant with polenta, a roma sauce, and vegetables.

Sprinkling their impassioned brand of alternative rock with touches of screamo, pop-punk, and metal, Middleburg, FL's the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus are coming to PCMH on May 26th. Writing and rehearsing for about 18 months with no real intentions of performing or recording anything, the bandmembers were later urged by some friends to pursue their music seriously. This encouragement led the guys to eventually book themselves some local shows, much to the quick embracement of their hometown scene. With a buzz growing, the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus recorded their first EP and relentlessly began spreading their name around Florida. Despite a rapidly developing fan base, several subsequent label showcases amounted to nothing and various bandmembers either exited or were asked to leave the group.

In November 2010, the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus entered the studio to record their third full length album, Am I The Enemy, finishing in December 2010 with producer John Feldmann. The album's first single, "Reap," was released via YouTube on March 24, although the song itself will not be released to iTunes until April 26.

The majority of our menu is being served at tables in the VIP area, but we have also developed some tasty, hand-friendly treats to be available at the bar.

As you probably know, the VIP area offers a first-rate experience at PCMH - seats at tables for you and your friends and un-obstructed sightlines to the stage. Our VIP tickets usually sell out quickly and what our regulars have figured out, is that the earlybird VIPs get the VERY close, VERY fabulous seats along the rail. (That said, there's not a bad seat in the VIP section - but some people prefer that front table where you get to watch the guitar tech tune or peer almost over the shoulder of the keyboard player, etc!)

Generally, our doors open one hour prior to music. Yes, we need time to take care of the line at the box office and get everyone in the door and settled before the musicians hit the stage. T.S Entertainment is bringing you Tory Lanez right here at Port City Music Hall on May 6th, and with what people are saying about this young rapper, it's the perfect opportunity to see someone before they really explode onto the hip/hop scene.

Daystar Peterson dubbed Tory Lanez is an eighteen year old musical genius hailing from Toronto, Ontario. At such a young age Tory Lanez is already beginning to be notices as one of the hottest artists to hit the hip-hop/r&b scene. Aside from Toronto, Lanez has also lived in Montreal, Atlanta, Florida, and New York, which have all helped him develop his diversified sound. Pulling all positives from negative situations, when Lanez lost his mother at a young age, he began to channel such hardship and pain into his work. Having come to Toronto with nothing, Lanez pulled inspiration from his musically talented family, and more importantly; his inner drive for success within the industry. Rapper-Singer-Pianist-Drummer, Tory Lanez seems to have it all.

After hooking up with 'The 5th' Management team, Lanez released three mixtapes within a year, and in January 2010 alongside rapper and Co-CEO N-R.I.M.E.S formed Flock Fresco, a record label/music group that has been creating a buzz in the industry ever since. Tory Lanez went on to release the much anticipated 'Just Landed' mixtape in July 2010. Lanez has no signs of slowing down anytime soon, his 'Just Landed' mixtape has already sparked the interest of well known artist and mangers within the industry including Sean Kingston, and the release of his new single 'Already Fly' will surely do the same thing. The World/Inferno Friendship Society comes to PCMH on 5/14

Coming to PCMH on Saturday May 14th, The World/Inferno Friendship Society is a cabaret punk band from Brooklyn, New York. Its style merges punk, klezmer, and gospel, while its collective membership features horns, piano, guitar, a number of percussionists, as well as a variety of other instruments such as accordion, xylophone and orchestra bells.

This musical collective has historically had over 30 members, including former members of Dexys Midnight Runners. Usually one can expect to see about nine or ten members on-stage when they perform. The group is led by singer Jack Terricloth and guitarist Lucky Strano, who have been the most constant members throughout the group’s history. Terricloth is known for his pointed commentary during shows: his monologues have touched on politics, his transformation from the “old school,” and baiting of bouncers which usually end up with the band buying drinks for the whole staff.

Members have also played in Sticks and Stones, Guignol, The Hold Steady, Nanuchka, Kid Casanova, Anti-Social Music, Morning Glory, Planned Collapse, Star Fucking Hipsters, The Dresden Dolls, and have been guests on Mischief Brew, stellastarr*, Public Radio International and Leftöver Crack recordings, as well as having The Casualties, along with Paul Maroon of Jonathan Fire*Eater on guitar, make a guest appearance on the recording of “Our Candidate”.

It's a weekend of CD Release parties and PCMH wouldn't have it any other way by ending the festivities with This Way's CD Release of "Goodbye Forever"on May 20th.

This Way is cut from a Rock mold and a Dust Bowl Soul. Their sound is contemporary and energetic Americana -- thick with vocal harmonies, acoustic guitar, fiddle, mandolin, footstomping rhythm and down-home grit. If the Beatles were raised in Heartland America, they would sound like This Way. After over five years of performing and banging out anthematic rock ‘n roll on the Portland music scene, This Way looked inward and pulled out the best and truest parts of their individual abilities. Though the raw energy and immediacy of the rock music on their first record “We Could All Make History” remained vital, the group began to focus on the folksier side. It came down to their roots.

It's always a party when hometown heroes Paranoid Social Club release a new cd, but it's even more exciting when they do it at PCMH on May 20th. Hailing from Portland, ME the band has received international accolades for it’s high energy style. Equally inspired by punk, soul, psychedelic rock, and the human psyche; PSC is a musical movement like no other. Picture Jimi Hendrix smashing a keyboard or The Clash backing Bob Dylan at the Newport Folk Festival. The fervor of their incendiary live show has propelled them to that of cult status. Paranoid Social Club has managed to create one of a kind anthems using sarcasm and beauty, two things that rarely coincide.

Paranoid’s debut Axis ll, spawned the hit “Wasted” which was featured as the theme for Broken Lizard’s cult classic film Beerfest, as well as being the soundtrack to every college party in America. Their follow up double LP Axis lll & l featured the single “Two Girls” and was remixed and released on EMI’s ON Entertainment record label. “Two Girls” was used in HBO’s series Entourage and Cathouse and birthed a house remix album produced by club dj’s ; Invisible Kid, Powder, and Butterface and Clinch. “Two Girls” quickly became PSC’s biggest international hit, as it landed them on countless radio stations most requested list. Coming as a special acoustic performance, Beth Hart and her guitarist Jon Nichols are set for an intimate show at PCMH on June 2nd. Beth Hart has been fascinated with music ever since she was a small child. As a 4-year-old, she started to play piano. At first, she concentrated on classical works by Bach and Beethoven, but as she grew older, she also began to play more mainstream pieces by artists such as Etta Jones, Otis Redding and even Led Zeppelin. Beth attended the Los Angeles High School for the Performing Arts as a voice and cello major. During this time, she performed at so-called 'open stages' several times a week. She also entered various talent competitions where she left some very big impressions. The best-known talent competition she entered was 'Star Search' in 1993. She won 13 episodes in a row, singing the music of Janis Joplin, Melissa Etheridge and Aretha Franklin, as well as songs she had written herself, including 'Show Me the Way' and 'I Am the One'. Eventually she won the final Star Search competition, but her success didn't come without any repercussions. Hart struggled with drugs and alcohol for years, but eventually turned her life around with the help of her manager and husband and has been on the road touring and creating music since.

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day at PCMH a little bit early with The Saw Doctors 3/15

You are starting to feel it, aren't you? That tingle in your foot, your mouth tasting like Guinness, it only means that St Patricks Day is right around the corner and we're ready to party with you starting TOMORROW 3/15 with The Saw Doctors who are straight from Tuam, County Galway in Ireland..

The band's first big break came when they were asked to play the opening act for The Waterboys UK tour in 1988. Soon after, their second single entitled "I Useta Lover" became the biggest selling single in Irish history, spending nine weeks at the top of that country's charts and prompting a scolding from the Catholic Church because of a lyric in the song that describes a boy as being more interested in his beloved's backside than the mass he is attending. The band is often compared to Bruce Springsteen, echoing his frequent use of local atmosphere, haunts and characters and for his electrifying live performances.

The Saw Doctors have a rabid international fan base fueled by those in Ireland as well as those of Irish descent in the US, UK, and elsewhere. Hailing from Dallas, Texas, Jonathan Tyler & The Northern Lights first began... to take shape when childhood friends Jonathan and Kansas began playing guitar in their teens. With shared common influences ranging from the Rolling Stones, Led Zepplin and Jimi Henrix to Bob Dylan, The Band and Muddy Waters; the two were compelled to write and play together. From the start it was JT on vocals, playing a mean, bluesy lead guitar, with Kansas on rythym adding a harder rock edge, a combo that was instantly right. Several years and incarnations later, they were joined by musical prodigy Nick Jay on bass and a hard-hitting drummer from Oklahoma named Jordan Cain. The core of the band was at last in place and the sound began to gel.

The band has opened for the likes of Heart, The Black Crowes, Erykah badu, The Arc Angels, Deep Purple, Leon Russell, Kool And The Gang, Cross Canadian Ragweed and Stoney LaRue. The New Mastersounds are a four-piece band based in Leeds, England, whose modern take on vintage soul-jazz, funk and rock draws influences from Jimmies McGriff, Smith, and Hendrix, as well as their most closely-associated mentors, The Meters. Try to imagine Grant Green and Lou Donaldson having a fight in a Hammond Organ shop while James Brown holds the coats, and you have some idea of what to expect from this band. 25-year-old producer and emcee Spose, hailing from Wells, Maine USA, has been making music since age 9 and rhyming since 1999 when he was 14. Since the release of his debut album "Preposterously Dank" in 2008 on his own imprint, Spose has seen his musical endeavors reach a new plateau. He was named Maine's "Best HipHop Act" for both 2008 and 2009 at the WePushButtons Awards and also named "Best Hiphop Act" in the Portland Phoenix's 2010 Best Music Poll. In 2009, he released a mixtape with fellow emcee Cam Groves entitled "We Smoked It All." A track off that mixtape, produced by Spose himself, "I'm Awesome" received regional radio play in New England which garnered Spose his first major label recording contract with Universal Republic Records. The single was released in March 2009 nationally and would eventually go gold after selling over 500,000 digital copies in just a few months. Ever since emerging as a member of Black Star in the late 1990s, Talib Kweli is one of the few artists making commercially viable music that matters. The Brooklyn bred rapper's hard-hitting music has been able to educate and entertain simultaneously. So it is no wonder that at the peak of their fame, both Jay-Z and 50 Cent named Talib Kweli as one of their favorite rappers.

Long-time Talib Kweli followers will say the same thing about him. Since his stellar debut with Mos Def as Black Star, Kweli has been one of rap's most exceptional and consistent artists. Port City Music Hall is about to get rowdy with one of the newest announcements, Southern California punk-rockers Face to Face with Strung Out on May 15th.

Face to Face has been an influential punk band on the California scene for many years. They are grouped with the likes of NOFX, Rancid, Bad Religion, Green Day, Blink 182 and Pennywise. They have appeared in movies such as National Lampoon's Senior Trip, and Tank Girl. In 2010 they were featured on the Warped Tour along side many other punk and hardcore bands.

Face to Face had joined the Dropkick Murphys for a split EP, and How to Ruin Everything, the band's sixth studio album, had appeared in March 2002. In fall 2003, Face to Face disbanded after 13 years and six albums. Two years later, the retrospective Shoot the Moon: The Essential Collection was released on Keith's Antagonist Records. Face to Face is back in action and their newest project, "Laugh Now, Laugh Later" is set for release is 2011.

Club d'Elf's music has been called "Moroccan-dosed dub-trance-jazz", and draws upon electronica, Moroccan Gnawa music, dub, free jazz, hip-hop & funk to create a heady, danceable mix. They will be joined on this date by John Medeski of the jazz-funk-soul trio Medeski Martin & Wood.

The band enjoys exploring mash-ups of the diverse musical universes they travel, where a Squarepusher-styled drum'n'bass groove may give way to a traditional North Indian tabla interlude, in turn dissolving into some Miles "Live Evil" type electric mayhem. Over the past few years (under the tutelage of member Brahim Fribgane, who hails from Casablanca) the band has been absorbing Moroccan trance influences and frequently adding this element to the live mix, showcasing Fribgane's mesmerizing oud stylings and Rivard's commanding playing of the Moroccan sintir, a 3 string bass lute used by the Gnawa people, a mystical Sufi brotherhood descended from sub-Saharan slaves brought to Morocco over 500 years ago.

I feel like Lex Luthor, or that Mike Myers character, Dr. Evil. I’m sitting here twiddling my thumbs, dreaming up this demonic scheme, getting ready to release this germ on to the world.”

While “demonic schemes” may not come to mind when you think of Assembly of Dust, Genauer’s post-Strangefolk crew since 2002, his band’s latest album does have the feeling of something remarkable being unleashed. The record, recorded over two years, showcases Genauer’s maturation as a songwriter, as evidenced both by the material and the all-star collaborations that dot all 13 tracks. It’s rare to hear something so massive in scope and ambition, and yet so intricate in the tiny details. The band was able to rope in a who’s who of classic and contemporary artists, including Richie Havens, Phish’s Mike Gordon, Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas, Martin Sexton, and Grace Potter, among others.

Through volunteer efforts, the Winter Cache Project grows and stores their own food supply to last throughout the winter and educates members about pertinent agricultural issues. WCP aims to create a working example of how a community can come together to provide for basic needs by employing the principles of mutual aid, equal access, and self determination. Before I start telling you about the awesome show happening here tonight, we just wanted to say thank you and sorry to everyone affected by the storms that we had on Tuesday and Friday. We didn't want to postpone either of those shows, but fortunately we've re-scheduled Sasquatch & The Sickabillies with The Outsiders to March 1st and we're waiting to hear back from Marcy Playground's agency about a new date for them. That officially made Enter The Haggis the first official show of 2011, and a great time was had by all.

Marcy Playground may perhaps be best known for their monster hit of 1997 titled "Sex and Candy" but they continue to explore new ground. The recent release of their fifth album, Indaba Remixes from Wonderland (Capitol/EMI) is a collection of remixes from the band’s 2009 critically-acclaimed album Leaving Wonderland…In a Fit of... Rage. For the release, the band partnered with the top online destination for music creation, Indaba Music, to offer fans the opportunity to put their own stamp on Marcy Playground’s songs by remixing them. The band then selected their favorite mixes from hundreds submitted for inclusion on this special release.

Over the past three albums and five years, Toronto’s Celtic rock band Enter The Haggis has found itself at the center of a grassroots success story ever teetering on the brink of mainstream success. From playing Celtic festivals to headlining them, and from the festival circuit to selling out multiple nights in rock venues, ETH has blazed a path with heavy and almost constant touring up and down the East Coast, to Canada, the West Coast and back again, winning over success one fan, one town, one region at a time.

Last week, our Facebook page mysteriously disappeared and since we didn't receive any replies from the FB staff, we had to go ahead and create new page. In the meanwhile, we lost all of our events, info, and more importantly the number of people who were following us (6k). Big Sam's Funky Nation have established their presence on the forefront of the New Orleans music scene. Trombone powerhouse and band leader "Big Sam" Williams, formerly of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, has been celebrated as "the top man on the slide trombone in the birthplace of jazz" by the San Francisco Chronicle and the band has been touted for consistently "bringing a straight raw party" by ...Jambase. 2010 has been a busy year for The Nation, with two European tours (France and Greece), a recurring role in the new HBO original series "Treme", and a busy US touring schedule including festivals such as the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Bonnaroo Arts & Music Festival, South by Southwest, Doheney Blues Festival and Gathering of the Vibes. For 2011, BSFN does not intend to slow down. The momentum BSFN has recently accumulated will only continue to grow off of the successful release of their fourth and most prolific album to date, King Of The Party. Be on the lookout for BSFN's masterful blend of a rock, with an improv-style associated with jazz and a horn-heavy front section that's the hallmark of funk. Men who cook. The songwriter called me last night and said he was invited over by the drummer for foie gras and aged bourbon. If you think that's fancy, what did you do on Tuesday night? Fill the Space. The songs are immediate, melodic, but with an element of demented adventure. The musicians have, at some point, with some band or other, recorded with David Bowie, toured with Joan Jett ,Ok Go!, lived... with Juliana Hatfield, wrote songs for around 20 albums, signed with Arista, Important Records, and Tommy Boy. Imagine if Paul McCartney fronted Led Zeppelin and had Beck produce it with Ken Scott engineering it. Retro sounds and modern synthesizers, lyrics with heartfelt provocative imagery and heavy-hitting drums. This is a band with a lot of bad relationships under its belt, and a lot of hope. You can hear influences that come not just from listening to records, but also from years of being on tour. One of the band spent a night chain smoking with Dave Grohl, another traded guitars with Kim Thayil of Soundgarden. It's a sloppy elegance: they ran out of bourbon on Tuesday, so chased the foie with Schlitz; Another in the band took a year off to buy a sailboat, rebuild it, and pilot it himself, because his wife had a dream to sail around the world. Baudrillard once said that “driving is a spectacular form of amnesia – everything is to be discovered, everything to be obliterated.” Space is unfillable by Speed. Stop reading. Listen.

Forest City Reggae Revival at Port City Music Hall, 504 Congress Street in Portland, ME. The event will feature

contemporary live reggae, classic roots and dancehall favorites, as well as DJ sets, bringing together live music and art to

celebrate community, sustainability, and the New Englander’s independent and diverse spirit in the heart of winter.

The Forest City Reggae Revival will feature reggae from headliners Mighty Mystic & The Thunder Band, local icons

Royal Hammer, Northeast legend Fitzie Niceness & Soul Union, turntable veteran Lukaduke, and the multi-talented DJ

Queen B. Boston-based Mighty Mystic released the much anticipated album, “Wake Up The World” in November 2010.

The disc quickly hit #4 on the iTunes Reggae Chart and has the makings and momentum to be a enduring classic in the

genre. Mighty Mystic first landed on the worldwide reggae radar in 2006 with their reggae dance hit “Riding On The

Clouds,” sitting on top of Reggae and Urban radio charts for the majority of the year. A series of magnificently diverse

songs would follow, from the anthem for change "Revolution" to dance floor favorites "Better Times” and "Fire-town.” Their

emerging presence in the Portland live music scene includes a packed Port City Music Hall show this past September and

an epic supporting set before Toots & the Maytals at the reinvigorated State Theatre.

First Blog of 2011.

Hope everyone had a great new years because we had a blast! Rustic Overtones and Gypsy Tailwind sold out PCMH for the last show of 2010 and we couldn't have had a better night! Thanks to everyone who came, and as a special bonus for those who showed up, they were the last people to see PCMH as everyone remembers it.

As of our first TWO! series on January 18th featuring Sasquatch and the Sick - A- Billys and The Outsiders, PCMH will look completely different. We start renovations tomorrow and we look forward to opening up our doors and showing everyone what we've been working on for months now!

On a sadder note, our Facebook page mysteriously disappeared this morning. As of right now, it's still MIA and we hope to have it back soon, but for all of your show needs, visit our website for all up to date listings.

Hope you all had a great holiday this past week and that you're ready to bring in the new year with us at Port City Music Hall. We've got a killer lineup tonight and there's something for everyone with Rustic Overtones, Gypsy Tailwind, and DJ Matty T partying it up until 2am! Tickets are still available but they are going fast, $28 at our website until 2pm and then our box office opens at 4pm to sell the rest.
